1. Why we publish this statement
Unolabs Limited is not required to publish under s.54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We publish this statement voluntarily. Modern slavery includes forced labour, servitude, human trafficking and the exploitation of children. We want our clients, our people and our suppliers to know what we do today to prevent it, and what we will do next.
This statement follows the six areas in s.54(5) of the Act and the Home Office statutory guidance. It describes only what we do now. Planned steps are written as "we will" with a target date.
2. Our organisation and supply chains
Unolabs Limited is a company registered in England and Wales. We provide technology consulting and technology workforce services to organisations, mainly in the UK. Our group company in India, Unolabs Technologies Private Limited, provides delivery and operations support.
Our main supply chain is people. We engage:
- employees;
- independent contractors, often through their own limited companies;
- recruitment and staffing partners who introduce or supply candidates.
We also buy software and cloud services, IT equipment, and professional services such as legal and accounting support.
3. Our policies
This statement is our current policy on modern slavery. By 31 March 2027, we will make sure our standard UK documents set out what we expect:
- our UK employment contract and new starter form will require a right to work check before employment starts;
- our UK consultant and contractor agreement will require the supplier to prove the consultant's right to work before the start date, and to tell us at once if that right changes;
- our UK partnership agreement will require each party to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015, and to keep adequate policies and procedures to do so.
We will publish a whistleblowing procedure by 31 March 2027.
4. Due diligence
By 31 March 2027, we will:
- record a right to work check, in line with Home Office guidance, for every new UK employee before they start;
- require contractors' suppliers to give right to work evidence before an assignment starts;
- include modern slavery and right to work terms in our standard partner and contractor agreements.
We will also:
- keep a register of our recruitment and staffing partners by 31 March 2027;
- ask each new staffing partner to confirm, in writing, how it prevents forced labour and recruitment fees charged to workers, by 31 March 2027.
5. Risk assessment
We have looked at where modern slavery is most likely to touch our business. Our view is:
- Labour supply through third parties. The highest risk for us is where workers reach us through agencies or chains of intermediaries. Risks include withheld pay, debt bondage and fees charged to workers.
- IT equipment. Electronics manufacturing is a known high risk sector worldwide. We buy small volumes from established resellers, so our influence is limited.
- Software, cloud and professional services. We consider these lower risk.
We will review this assessment each year, and when we add a new type of supplier.
6. Measuring effectiveness
From this financial year we will track, and report in our next statement:
- the share of new UK employees and contractors with a right to work check recorded before they start (target: 100%);
- the share of new staffing partner agreements that include modern slavery terms (target: 100%);
- the number of modern slavery concerns raised, and how many were closed;
- the share of relevant staff who have completed awareness training.
7. Training
We do not yet run formal modern slavery training. We will give short awareness training to our directors, and to anyone who engages contractors or suppliers, by 31 March 2027. It will cover the signs of modern slavery and how to report a concern.
